Invisalign is a nearly invisible, metal-free alternative to conventional orthodontic braces. Movement of the teeth is achieved through the use of custom-made clear aligners. These sets of clear aligners are worn 20-22 hours per day over the teeth, and are nearly invisible to the naked eye.
Invisalign aligners are a wonderful treatment option for patients looking for a straighter, more aesthetically pleasing smile, without the use of metal wires and brackets.
The process of getting Invisalign is quite simple. First, a consultation appointment will be setup with Rickoff Dentistry in order to ensure the patient is a good candidate for Invisalign, and that the patient’s end goal is a feasible one with Invisalign treatment. Once candidacy is established, a treatment plan estimate will be provided and all questions will be answered.
If treatment is accepted, impressions of the upper and lower jaws and teeth will be taken, and intraoral and external photos of your teeth and smile will be documented. The case will then be submitted to Invisalign and a full treatment plan, including an estimate for treatment duration, will be established. After careful consideration and revision of the treatment plan created by Dr. Rickoff, she will approve the manufacturing of the custom aligners. This process typically takes about two to three weeks.
Once the custom aligners are received, an appointment will be made to place small tooth-colored resin attachments onto certain teeth as indicated in the treatment plan. The clear aligners will “snap” onto these and provide subtle pressure that will help move the teeth throughout the treatment process.
The aligners will be worn for 1-2 weeks at a time before switching to the next set, while the teeth will be gradually moving until all aligners are worn, and the best attainable result is achieved. Exact instructions are on a case by case basis, and will be supplied by Dr. Rickoff at time of delivery.
